A Legacy of Canadian ArtWe had the pleasure of going to the Kelowna Art Gallery today to see their exhibition called "A Legacy of Canadian Art." There we were able to see 81 paintings, prints and sculptures by many different Canadian Artists.
Here is a link to the Art Gallery's website, with photos of the exhibition: http://kelownaartgallery.com/a-legacy-of-canadian-art-from-kelowna-collections/ We started off our field trip with a couple of games on the lawn beside the gallery, followed by a picnic lunch. When we were done, we headed inside for the gallery tour. After our tour, we were able to move into the studio side and created mixed-media (oil pastels and water colour) art inspired by Emily Carr's "BC Forrest" painting. Stay tuned, photos of the finished paintings will be posted when we are done! Inspired by the Canadian artist Sandra Silberzweig, we have created our own abstract portraits. We are exploring art through line, colour and patterns. The steps we followed were to draw out our faces, then "draw" them with white glue that would then dry clear. Once dry, we then used chalk pastels to blend similar colours in each area. When that was completed, we did the final touch of adding dots, dashes, lines and curls to add patterns to our face. Thank you to art teacher Cassie Stephens for the lesson.
Photos of finished products will be posted soon! |
