WE DID IT! We hiked from Eain Lamount Park, in Lakeview Heights, up to the ponds, over to the North summit, across the top, up the South summit and then down the Rush trail. It was a fantastic day! Students were able to observe the dacite rock boulders and see where they have eroded from the mountain. We saw a lot of evidence of different volcanic rock, as well as many types of local plants. I'm looking forward to seeing how this hike will spark ideas for our rock cycle inquiry and add to our ideas for writing.
Thank you to all the volunteer parents who came out for the day. Our school is currently fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart and we have been practicing skipping every day!

We learned about 4 local plants (Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir, Saskatoon Berry, Oregon Grape) and what they have been used for traditionally and currently. It was a great afternoon spent in the classroom (tasting tea and jam, smelling and observing different specimens) and we were also able to go out and see all of these plants in their natural habitat. |
