This month we welcomed a new student and said good bye to one who is moving to Alberta. The grade 5s got their hoodies! We had a visit from one of the Kelowna Rocket's player, and he worked with us on Math. We also did some Christmas crafting as a fundraiser for the grade 5's year end field trip.
We went to Glen Canyon with the idea of oral story telling in our minds. Students had to pick 1-3 objects that they found on our walk and then pair up with a partner. Once with a partner, they had to use only 3 of the objects and create a story using these. Once they had their story, they met up with a second group and shared their story.
Things are changing in the Canyon! Most of the tree leaves are on the ground, but the black berry bushes are still green.
Today we played Big Tree Hide and Go Seek and it was so much fun! We have been working on our writing while we have been in out in nature. We have been writing about what we see, hear, smell, touch and how we feel. Plus also have been writing out our stream of consciousness to see our thought processes and to help practice writing. Rain or shine we are going to Glen Canyon and today we got a bit of each! We went to a new spot, looking for an object to share along the way. Once student's had an opportunity to explore the area and notice changes since we had last been down (faster flowing water, less leaves on the tress and bushes, mud), we met in small groups and shared the found objects (rocks, moss, leaves, sticks) with our group members who had to describe the object with their eyes closed. During this time, the sky opened up and the rain came down! We walked quickly back to school and drew or wrote about our experience in the park.
