Students were challenged to recreate this paper puzzle. The only rule was they could NOT touch the example. They were given the clue that it was cut 3 times. Students collaborated, restarted, and thought about this challenge. While this was happening, the teachers in the room were recording what was being said. Students said things like: "This is impossible!" "She must have switched it in the hall." "I cant do this!" Then started saying things like: "I need help." "Can I have a hint." "How did S do it?" "What have you tried?" Until finally we heard things like: "I did it!"
We talked about growth mindset, how this did seem impossible, but just needed time and trying it over again, and possibly getting help from others. Be warned, students were encouraged to challenge household members this weekend! Comments are closed.
